Just the FAQs Jack!

Who the heck are you guys?

My name is Sven and I run a software development company called Logicopolis Technology Inc. We specialize in mobile devices and we developed GaugeFace®.

I have a Sportster and thought it would be great to have a few other gauges on my ride. Since I was accustomed to using my iPhone in the car (mostly for navigation & music) I thought maybe putting it on my bike and showing some digital gauges on it would be possible. I then started to think that having more choices in how a gauge cluster looked would be really cool. If you ride a Harley, and you really like your iPhone or iPod touch, you'll think this is good idea too so try it out!

If you need to get a hold of me send an email to info'at'gaugeface'dot'com. Cheers and Happy Riding!

What versions of iPhone and iPod touch are supported?

We test with:

  • iPhone 3GS, 4 & 5*.
  • iPod touch 3rd generation and 4th generation
  • iPad 2 & iPad mini*.

(* requires an Apple provided Lightning to 30 Pin adapter part)

Will I see any App enhancements with xxx feature?

Absolutely! Currently the app lets you choose from a few gauge clusters (GaugeFaces) and we will continue work to post more GaugeFaces. One day, we plan to let you publish your own GaugeFaces. With v1.6 of the app we started to introduce the ability to customize and in v2.5 allow you to create completely custom GaugeFaces! As we work to figure out how to handle other gauge data we will add support for these too. Your iPhone or iPod touch has mass storage, a fast processor, great graphics capabilities and possibly a GPS and digital compass too... we'll certainly be using all of these things to your benefit.

Do you provide the mount for my iPhone or iPod touch?

No. We do not provide a handlebar mount for your iPod. Check out RAM Mounts if you are looking for a really well made mount.

They have a lot of configurations but For an iPhone 4, RAM-B-149Z-AP9U goes on your handlebars and works pretty well. Let us know if you have any questions as I'm sure you can imagine we have tried out a few mounts and we know that some are crap.

We have also tested using a case & bike mount from Rokform. It works great as long as you don't mind fiddling around like I did to find a way to set it up on your handlebars. Here's a Youtube video showing the setup (also posted here).

Isn't glare and the device shaking so much a problem?

We have found it is best to not use any kind of anti-glare screens or films. The best results are with the device as-is. Both the iPod touch and iPhone use solid state drive (SSD) technology. So with very little in terms of moving parts they make the perfect devices to use. If you are really concerned about vibration check out this video.

How about riding in the rain?

So you ride in the rain hey... well you can look for a water resistant case & mount but we haven't found many that we really like. Let us know if you find something that works well for you. Otherwise, best to put your iPod or iPhone away if it's really wet and then hope for nice weather to return.

Update March 2012!!! LifeProof makes a really awesome water proof case. We have tested it for waterproofness (is that a word) and it is really great. Hope to test it on a Harley as soon as we get a mount setup and we'll let you know how it goes ASAP!

Which Harley motorcycles are supported?

Harley's since about 2001/2002, since 2007 on Sportsters, with EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) based Delphi ECM's should work just fine. New 2011+ Harley Softail & 2012+ Dyna models have a new HDLAN protocol with a different data port connector. We are working on support for HDLAN and have posted more info here.

Note: Harley's from 2001 model year may have a Magneti Marelli ECM.
Always verify with your dealer or user manual that your bike is Delphi ECM based before ordering.

Can you mark packages as gifts / lower price?

Unfortunately, no. This is not possible for liability and shipping reasons. A package marked as a gift cannot be insured and thus customers wouldn't be able to get their money back in case it gets lost or damaged in the mail.
